Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Breaks 100,000 Sales

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV hasn’t even hit American pavement yet, but it’s already red hot elsewhere in the world. It’s only the fourth plug-in electric car ever to break 100,000 sales.

Currently available in Europe and Japan, it had a reported 101,900 sales through this past March, and that number continues to climb. It falls only behind the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, and the Chevrolet Volt in global plug-in sales.

But, what makes Mitsubishi an even higher competitor is that while the others reached their sales with the help of the American market, Mitsubishi’s Outlander PHEV isn’t even here yet. And until last year, the U.S. was the world’s largest market for plug-ins.

Once the Outlander PHEV gets here, we should see an even greater surge in its numbers. For now, the Outlander has been quite the success overseas, becoming the bestselling plug-in hybrid in Europe. Japan had 33,741 sales of the car, showing their push for environmental improvement.

A benefit of Mitsubishi’s cars is their affordability. While many other automakers plan or are already producing plug-in hybrids, few offer them as inexpensively as Mitsubishi does.

So, when the Outlander PHEV finally arrives, will you be ready to call it yours?

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage

The all-new 2017 Mitsubishi Mirage is here and ready to take on the world. Forget the Mirage of the past, because the new G4 has even more to offer.

With the popularity of the Mirage, Mitsubishi designed to expand the lineup, and with that comes to G4 four-door sedan. It made its U.S. debut earlier this year at the 2016 New York Auto Show. As opposed to its Mirage hatchback sibling, the G4 has a separate trunk for those who prefer a sedan over a hatchback.

Tech updates abound, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, so your smart phone can be connected at all times. Efficiency is top-notch, too. A fuel economy rating of 40 mpg makes the Mirage G4 the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car in the U.S.

On the inside, updated interior materials make the seats much more comfortable than its hatchback predecessors. A new steering wheel makes for a better grip and handling.

While you won’t go from zero to sixty in two seconds, the lower horsepower is made up for in the affordability and efficiency of this sedan.

So now you have something to look forward to: style, efficiency, and affordability all-in-one!

U.S. Mitsubishis Not Affected By Fuel Economy Irregularities

fuel economy irregularities

Mitsubishi Motors North America has confirmed that US vehicles are not affected by the fuel consumption testing data irregularities that recently came to light in Japan.

Mitsubishi Motors R&D America, Inc. worked in concert with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation to conduct an internal audit of US market vehicles and thoroughly review all vehicles sold in the US from 2013 to 2017. It confirmed that none were affected by the fuel economy irregularities and that they complied with EPA testing procedures.

According to Mitsubishi, a different method is used in the United States than Japan to gather fuel mileage figures, which the EPA calls “Road Load Coefficient,” which is independently verified before it is submitted to the EPA. Mitsubishi also says it shared this information to the California Air Resources Board and the Department of Transportation.

In other words, shoppers at Coronet Mitsubishi can feel confident that our vehicles’ EPA-rated fuel economy estimates are accurate and in no way a misrepresentation of their actual capabilities.

2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+

2016 Mitsubishi Outlander IIHS 2016 Top Safety Pick+

When customers shop for a family SUV, safety is usually at the top of their list of desired features. At Coronet Mitsubishi, we’re proud to say that the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, one of our most best-selling models, has been named a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

For 2016, earning IIHS Top Safety Pick+ certification is no longer a matter of receiving the highest score of “Good” in all but one category. This time, models must earn the highest safety score in every crashworthiness evaluation, including small overlap front, moderate overlap front, head restraints and seats, side, and roof strength.

Even then, that’s only good enough for the Top Safety Pick award sans the plus sign. To get the latter, vehicles must also earn an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention, which the Outlander achieved when equipped with optional Forward Collision Mitigation technology.

What Your Car Color Says About You

There are all kinds of cars in all kinds of colors out there on the road. But what does your car color say about you?

White – White suggests that you have taste and elegance. And since it’s so hard to clean, it’s perfect for perfectionists.

Black – Black is the number one luxury color. So if you’re driving a black car, you probably like sophistication and power.

Gray – A gray car suggests that you’d rather blend in then stand out. Gray is more nondescript than other colors.

Red – Red is for go-getters. It represents confidence and action. If you have a red car, you probably enjoy showing off once in a while.

Blue – A blue car is practical and happy. It suggests that the blue car driver wants stability, truthfulness, and serenity.

Brown/Beige – The brown car driver wants value and a long life and doesn’t care so much about trends or fads.

Yellow/Gold – You’re probably very optimistic if you drive a yellow car. Yellow exudes joy and a positive attitude.

Green – You might be an environment lover. Or you might not care about following up on fashion trends.

Orange – Orange declares you’re comfortable with value and saving money.

Mitsubishi Technology is Changing Reception in Parking Garages

Have you ever been in a parking garage and been unable to use your phone? All that concrete and steel often make garages seem like a black hole as they block out reception. This isn’t a huge problem…unless you need to use the GPS or use a car locator app.

Mitsubishi recognizes how important it is for drivers to be able to access their phones functions such as the GPS. That’s why the automaker has created a new technology method to help drivers get better service in locations where they might not normally have reception.

This technology can pinpoint your location by using sound and Wi-Fi. The time it takes for the sound to reach positioning-capable Wi-Fi access points determines your location.

This will allow your GPS to be able to track you and help plan out your next route. No more waiting until you pull out of the parking garage to figure out directions. You also will no longer need to worry about losing your car, as the technology can be used to detect your car’s position and guide you.

This technology will be available for commercial use by April 2017. We at Coronet Mitsubishi are excited to see how this technology changes the way we view reception in parking garages!

How to Test Drive a Car

Taking a car for a test drive tells you more about the mechanics than simply opening up the hood. Knowing what to look and listen for can make all the difference between buying a quality car and a lemon. When you test drive a car, you’re test driving what you could be riding in for years to come. Not sure what to look for on a test drive? Take these tips from us here at Coronet Mitsubishi!

  1. Make sure to check out what’s under the hood before you get behind the wheel and turn the key. If anything looks out of place or there’s a significant amount of dirt and grime, tell the dealer. Check the tires to make sure the tread is wearing evenly. Last, but not least, play with all the electronics before putting the car in drive.
  2. Once you’re behind the wheel and on the road, it’s time to pay attention. If the engine seems to be whining or the pedals are vibrating abnormally, it’s a sign to pass on the car. Make sure you’re comfortable and the ride is smooth. If you aren’t comfortable then you won’t want to drive this car for years to come.
  3. Think it over after your test drive. Reexamine the good and the bad. If the bad outweighs the good, or you can’t live with the bad, call the dealer and tell them you’ll pass.

IHS Recognizes 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage

The 2016 models are hitting dealerships but the 2015 awards aren’t over just yet! IHS Automotive recognized the Mitsubishi Mirage for the second year in a row. Taking home the highest Model Loyalty in the Non-Luxury Traditional Sub-Compact segment, the 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage continues to prove its dominance. While there won’t be a 2016 model, the Mirage will be all-new for the 2017 model year.

The IHS Automotive loyalty performance is awarded based on how many households that own a new vehicle return to purchase or lease another vehicle of the same make and model. The Mitsubishi Mirage saw the highest percentage of owners in the 2015 model year, making it the top model among its segment.

“The Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the true hidden gems in the automotive industry and this IHS award validates that claim,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president, Mitsubishi Motors North America.

New for 2017, the Mitsubishi Mirage will boast a new design, more performance, and technology like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Best of all, it will come at a reasonable price—something the segment lacks.

We here at Coronet Mitsubishi are proud to see the Mitsubishi Mirage take home a loyalty award for the second year in a row.
